What the app is

Quiet Total Joint Recovery shows the medication plan that Dr. Olsen prescribed for your knee or hip replacement, one day at a time, and can remind you when doses are due. It is a companion to the printed sheets you receive from the office; it does not replace them, and it does not replace medical advice.

What information the app holds

When you scan the code on your printed App Code sheet (or paste the code in by hand), the app reads the plan that was printed for you. That plan contains:

• your medical record number, so the app can confirm the plan is yours;
• the procedure (total knee, partial knee, or total hip) and your surgery date;
• the date the sheet was printed;
• the list of medications and supplements, with their doses, timing, and how long each is taken.

As you use the app it also keeps, on the phone only: which doses you have marked as taken, any medication you have removed from your view, the reminder times you chose, which as-needed reminders you have silenced, and whether you have seen the introduction.

The app does not ask for your name, address, date of birth, email, or phone number, and it has no way to learn them.

Where that information is stored

On your iPhone, in a single file that belongs to the app. iOS encrypts that file whenever the phone is locked, using the same protection Apple applies to your most sensitive data. Nothing is stored on a server, because the app does not use one.

If you back up your iPhone (to iCloud or to a computer), the app's file is included in that backup like any other app's data, protected by Apple's backup encryption. Restoring a backup restores your plan.

What the app never does

• It never connects to the internet. It contains no networking code at all.
• It never sends anything to Dr. Olsen's office. The office cannot see whether you installed the app or how you use it.
• It does not collect analytics, usage statistics, crash reports, or advertising identifiers, and it contains no third-party software of any kind.
• It does not read your Health app, your step count, your contacts, your location, or your photos.
• It does not track you across other apps or websites.

Camera

The app asks to use the camera for one purpose: reading the square code on your printed sheet. The camera turns on only on the scanning screen and off as soon as a code is read. No photo or video is ever saved.

Pasting a code

If you type or paste your code instead of scanning it, the app reads what is on your clipboard only at the moment you tap the Paste button, and iOS shows you a notice when it does. The app does not read the clipboard at any other time.

Reminders

If you turn reminders on, the app schedules them on your phone using Apple's built-in notification system. They are created and delivered entirely on the device. A reminder names the medication that is due, so it may be visible on your lock screen; you can change what notifications show on the lock screen in the iPhone's Settings under Notifications.

Links that leave the app

Some screens offer a button to call or text the office, to open your MyChart account, or to open a product's website. Those buttons hand you to the Phone app, Messages, Safari, or the MyChart app, which are governed by their own privacy practices, not this policy. The app passes nothing about you to them beyond the phone number or web address being opened.

Removing your information

Open the More tab and choose Remove my plan from this phone. That erases the plan, your taken-dose history, and your settings, and cancels every scheduled reminder. Deleting the app from your iPhone does the same. In either case you can scan your printed code again later to get the plan back.

Children

The app is made for adults who are having, or have had, a joint replacement. It is not directed at children, and it has no way to collect information from anyone.

Your medical record

The app is not part of your medical record and is not connected to the clinic's electronic health record or to MyChart. The plan it shows is the plan the office printed for you on the day of your sheet. If the office changes your medications, you will receive a new printed sheet and a new code; the app does not update on its own.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever gains a feature that changes what it does with your information, this page will be updated first and the effective date at the top will change. Because the app does not connect to the internet, it cannot notify you of changes itself; the current policy is always the one at this address.
